Calling all podcasters! Pimp your podcast!
CALLING ALL PODCASTERS!
PIMP YOUR PODCAST !
(or HOW TO MAKE YOUR PODCAST AUDIO FEATURES STAND OUT)
The problem with many podcasts is that they lose credibility because they lack that professional touch. Poor editing, loud backgrounds, too much repetitive chat, interviews that ramble etc.
Veteran radio broadcaster and documentary maker, Nigel Vermaas, will help you improve the following skills: prepping, presentation, structure, scripting, interviewing, editing, and use of music, sound effects and backgrounds.
As it will be a practical course, attendees will need a laptop/tablet, and a pair of headphones, (or even ear buds) and will be required to familiarise themselves with the basics of a digital editing programme (Audacity is good and it’s free); and, although a recorder is a nice-to-have, the quality of cell phone recorders these days is adequate.
Facilitator: Nigel Vermaas
Dates: Saturday 6 June –Saturday 27 June (4 sessions)
Time: 10.00–13.00 pm
Course Fee: R2 500, staff and students R1 100.
Venue: Classroom 5A, Middle Campus, Kramer Law building. UCT
Maximum: 12 participants
Booking is through Webtickets:

What you’ll learn:
- Podcast preparation and planning
- Confident presentation and delivery
- Strong structure and effective scripting
- Interviewing techniques that keep conversations focused and compelling
- Editing fundamentals
- Creative use of music, sound effects, and ambient sound
What you’ll need:
This is a hands-on course, so participants should bring:
- A laptop or tablet
- Headphones or earbuds
- Basic familiarity with a digital editing programme (Audacity is recommended—and it’s free)
A recording device is useful, but not essential—modern smartphone recorders are more than adequate.
Whether you’re starting out or looking to refine your current podcast, this course will help you produce content that sounds professional and keeps listeners coming back for more.
