SPANISH FOR BEGINNERS

This online course is an introduction to Spanish for complete beginners, which will provide basic grammar, pronunciation and relevant, useful situational vocabulary and phrases. Each lecture will build on previous lectures and introduce new and useful vocabulary, from basic introductions, greetings, and pleasantries, to family relationships, foods, travel, and simple communication in the simple present, past and future tenses. Its aim is to enable participants to build on what they’ve learned with relative ease beyond the course materials.

This course will be delivered via MS Teams. Participants will receive a link upon registration.

Dr Jay Corwin is from North America and is of Native American, Mexican, and European origins, and a heritage speaker of Spanish. After receiving degrees in Spanish and Latin America from Queens College of the City University of New York, The University of Hawaii, and Florida State University, he embarked on a lecturing career and is author of two books on the works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and articles and book chapters cover the works of several major 20^th Century Latin American authors, conference presentations in Spain, Peru, Cuba, Moscow, the USA at distinguished institutions of higher education and research, and encyclopedia entries. He arrived in Cape Town in 2012 as the first director of the Spanish language and Hispanic literature programme at the University of Cape Town.
