BULLY DIALOGUES
Bryan Schimmel, music director, arranger and performer; Clinton Fein, writer and artist
Saturday 23 January < 3.00–5.00 pm < COURSE FEES R230; Staff and students R115
Bully Dialogues was created and is presented by Bryan Schimmel and Clinton Fein, two former classmates whose lives were shaped by one story with two vastly different realities. Clinton had singled Bryan out for a relentless campaign of name-calling, merciless mockery and physical intimidation. Decades later, a mutual friend brought them together and that reunion became more than a powerful story of confrontation and reconciliation. It became the foundation for a different kind of dialogue.
In this critically acclaimed keynote presentation, they use lived experience as a springboard to a much broader rethinking of how bullying is understood and addressed: from harm-reduction approaches and more meaningful models of accountability to the language we use to describe those involved. As AI, deepfakes, impersonation, algorithmic amplification and other emerging technologies reshape the nature and scale of bullying, their work increasingly focuses on how schools, organisations and communities need to respond to forms of harm that conventional anti-bullying frameworks were never designed to handle.
It is this combination of lived experience and forward-looking analysis that has positioned Bully Dialogues as a distinctive voice in the evolving conversation about bullying.
